A Six Pounder Gun deployed for firing; note the hand spike protruding from the pointing rings at the trail end of the stock. This acts as an aiming handle to shift the position of the gun from side to side, like the tiller on a boat. For transport and display, the hand spike hangs on the side of the cheekpiece. It had rained earlier in the day, so the field does not present a fire hazard.
